We thought we’d seen every kind of themed wedding here at Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel until Wiki and Cedric of New Zealand requested a custom themed wedding modeled after the movie “The Adventures of Priscilla Queen of the Desert.” It took some doing, but over time, we made all the arrangements long distance. Jimmy Emerson, former star of the La Cage show at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, pitched in to help. By arranging a professional makeup artist, Ashley, and borrowing costumes from Jimmy’s amazing female impersonator wardrobe, together we got the job done!
Wiki and Cedric met seven years ago on a P & O Love Boat (from the ACTUAL TV series!) cruise in the South Pacific. (The two of them gush, “How romantic is THAT?”) After the wedding, the couple will spend three days visiting San Francisco, then it’s off to honeymoon aboard another luxury cruise ship sailing around Hawaii for seven blissful days. We are thrilled for them! What a way to top their unique drag-queen-themed extravaganza of a wedding!
Wiki and Cedric arrived early for their pampering makeup sessions in our Elvis and Priscilla Suite behind the wedding chapel. Professional makeup artist, Ashley, pulled out all the stops–and the glitter– to magically transform both bride and groom into visions of loveliness. (Visit our website, link below, to find out more about deluxe bridal packages that include hair and makeup and all the frills.)
Cedric tells us about his proposal: “We owned an organic farm in Matakana. Our children worked at a local vineyard/ restaurant which had an intimate dining area beside a little lake. It was secluded with curtains, illuminated with candles and as the dusk fell I proposed to her. The ring was special too. When Wiki described her mum’s engagement ring, it sounded identical to my mum’s ring. I found the perfect ring handcrafted antique with rubies and diamonds, just like our mothers!”
Cedric, the groom, watches as his bride-to-be is made up right before the ceremony.
Wiki and Cedric said they decided on Las Vegas as a wedding destination because they could have the specialty theme they were looking for. Plus, “How better to get married when the honeymoon/holiday is part of the wedding!”
Wiki and Cedric, all dolled up for their Queen of the Desert wedding extravaganza.
